Dehiwala Community Church traces its roots to a humble beginning in 1987, when Senior Pastor Navaradnarajah Somanathan and his wife Jeevardharshini Somanathan responded to God’s call and began the ministry under the name Streams of Power. What started as a small step of faith soon grew into a vibrant work, grounded in prayer, the Word of God, and a deep love for people. In the years that followed, the ministry became part of Christian Revival Crusade (CRC)—a Pentecostal denomination headquartered in Australia—embracing a wider vision while remaining committed to serving the local community. After many years of waiting, praying, and faithfully believing, the CRC headquarters and church space were finally completed in 2017, marking a significant milestone in the journey of the ministry.

Pastor Somanathan has faithfully served the Lord and His people for over 42 years, with Jeevardharshini standing alongside him as a steadfast support and gifted administrator of the ministry. Together, their servant leadership has helped nurture both spiritual growth and practical outreach. Over time, the ministry expanded to include two children’s homes in Valaichchenai, a pre-school in Vavuniya, and several church plants, reflecting a heart for holistic mission—reaching children, families, and communities with the love of Christ.

In 2025, the leadership sensed a renewed vision from God: to focus intentionally on the immediate neighborhood of Dehiwala. Out of this calling, Dehiwala Community Church was born—a local expression of the wider CRC family, committed to being a beacon of hope to the city of Dehiwala. Today, Dehiwala Community Church exists to worship God, proclaim His Word, and serve our community with compassion. We are grateful for the journey so far and look forward with faith to all that God will continue to do among us.
